Everybody's Gone To War - Nerina Pallot Single Review

Single Review
It is when crisp and caressing vocals shroud passion and angry feelings that you really pay attention to what is being said, which is truly the case with this single from London born songstress Nerina Pallott. This encapsulates the vibrancy and poignancy of Thea Gilmore that propels itself out of a platform of Bjorkesque lushness and Sheryl Crow crispness. Despite having a title that looks like a single minded banner slogan, Nerina's lyrics transcend any single issue, as she speaks of a deeper wisdom and defies acrimony;
"If God's on our side, then God is a joker
Asleep on the job, his children fall over.
Running out of the door and straight to the sky,
I don't want to die"
The backing vocals of Susannah Melvoin help to punctuate the piercing points made by the song, as this peaceful songstress questions the wisdom of the acting prior to thinking mentality of the modern world. With a voice like hers you feel compelled to listen.
