Album Review
Enchanting escapism is on full and it demonstrates that Weller has not lost his of his ability to produce a dreamy feel that has a trickle of anger running through it. 'Come On/Let's Go' is a cursory glance over Weller's shoulder musically speaking to the scything 'Woodcutters Son' while the vocals, possess a commanding and slightly hurried touch that shone through on the 'Illumination' and 'Heavy Soul' albums. as though Weller is in a rush to get his message across; about being bold, spontaneous and possessing self belief. There is an air of Leonard Cohen that endearingly floats around, yet it is difficult to pinpoint its exact presence.
Weller's vocals take on a more soulful and summery direction in the sprightly pop number 'Shine On', there is a hint of his Style Council days proudly peering out of the colourful and zinging musical backdrop. Echoing and exuberant repetition of the song title drum positive feelings into you, as you cannot fail to respond to Weller's power and spirit. This offering implies that there could be another 'Stanley Road' on the way! Yeah, it is a salivating prospect isn't it?
