Junk - Ferry Corsten,Guru Single Review

Single Review

The groove rumbling trance/electro lounge strut of Dutcman, Ferry Corsten hits a peak early in the punchy Radio Edit of 'Junk', in fact it does so shortly after the first note of the whizzing intro. This is the third single to be taken from the reputation enhancing and attitude oozing 'LEF' album. The hip/hop vocal range begins to open out the world of the hypnotic and roguish vibe-master, with the cocky and self-sure lyrics being delivered with oomph and in a slightly snarly manner;

Hungry, so it's gonna get ugly I'm feeling like nobody loves me.
Funky, and I'm a microphone junky tear it out from country to country.
Major, I got the unique flavour bless you with my words like a saviour.

As the lyrical growl grows so does the tempo to fervid, almost Paul Van Dyk proportions. The flying A-side is juxtaposed by three mood building, marathon remixes each weighing in at over 7 minutes. 'Flashover Mix' moves the beats towards the mainstream and scatters the vocals more sparsely, losing the impetus of the vocals, but this is regained by the racing backbeats. The more cosmopolitan and lounge/ambient fusing 'D Ramirez Mix', conjures up a slower perspective from which to appreciate Corsten's craft, as his vocals have more of a jungle tilt. It is easy to see why Ferry Corsten is gaining more and more international recognition with each foray.
