Album Review

It was their searing, balls in the air live sets that really made people take notice of the

Essex post rock and emo troupe, INME and helped debut album Overgrown Eden to pierce the top 10 in 2003. Therefore, it is no surprise that they

attempt to re-climb those heady heights by releasing this seventeen track collection that is their searing set from The Astoria in 2005. Choosing to open

with the ebb and flow, heart grinder 7 Weeks, sees Dave McPherson's yoyo vocals bobbing up and down between the throbbing, straight tempo bass

line and thrusting guitars and percussion to set a

gnarly tone. The pleading and almost punk hugging Faster The Chase, draws the crowd into an inhibition releasing scream along that comes off

extremely well, as normally on live CDs, attempts at crowd involvement seem forced and ineffective. The soul dredging Chamber displays a skill

that many a modern rock band would sell their Led Zep' collection for; the ability to slow things down to haunting levels. To follow this up with the

popular, big riff wielding with a break of tingling guitar virtuosity that is the rock anthem of So You Know, helps the set reach a peak.

The crowd screaming and lapping up of the band's performance is reminiscent of a Red Hot Chili Peppers gig and, with Neptune it is easy to see

why Chili's fans might be drawn into the INME net, especially in Dave's vocals for this endeavour. The command to have "every motherfucker singing along in

this entire place, even those at the back who think they're fucking cool", that precedes the grizzly and downtrodden Underdose, underlines

INME's ethos to get everyone involved. It seems to work as well, as their sincerity is genuine and they are not a pompous rock band, unlike too many these

days. The live experience is well captured on this offering and INME seem to have the heart in them, to emerge as the caustic and rhythmic rock outfit that

Overgrown Eden more than hinted at.
