Prior to their much lauded UK tour and top five album; 'Meltdown' from which this maudlin and melodious single is extracted, questions were being asked about the future of Ash. With guitarist Charlotte Hatherley recently flying solo with a well received and loved up release 'Kim Wild'. The cynical lesson about being in a relationship that was doomed before it had even begun that is 'Starcrossed' is ample proof; if any were needed? That Ash have not burnt out and still pride themselves on producing well thought out and stirring numbers. This track starts of in ballad mode with front man Tim Wheeler tenderly setting the scene with mellowed vocals ensuring that the lyrics go straight to the heart of the listener;
"In your eyes I would hide, by your side I could defy the forces tearing us apart.
But reality as it seems, looking back is that our dream was faded from the start."
Having dazzled sell out audiences around the UK on a recent tour, it is evident that the slightly tenderer and customarily cynical Ash are still as popular and as important as ever.
