English lead-singer with Band of Joy and Led Zeppelin, as well as solo since the latter's demise in the early 80s.
As a soloist, his key releases have included "Pictures At Eleven" (1982), "The Principle Of Moments" (1983 - it included the hit "Big Log"), "Now and Zen" (1988) and "Mighty ReArranger" (2005).
He has also co-ordinated several collaborations, not least with "The Honeydrippers" (with Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck), "No Quarter" (acoustic-roots reformation with Page) and "Raising Sand" (Grammy-winning Americana with Alison Krauss).
He resurrected the name Band Of Joy for a roots-project in 2010.
