Jamaican reggae and ska band formed in 1966 and fronted by Toots Hibbert.
Initially they were a gospel-harmony group before recording their hit "54-46 Was My Number".
Their other key songs include 'Pressure Drop', 'Monkey Man', 'Sweet and Dandy', Funky Kingston' and 'Bam Bam'.
Toots and the Maytals
have cancelled their summer UK tour - including festival appearances - on doctor's orders. Singer Toots was struck by a bottle thrown from the crowd at a gig last month in America which left him requiring surgery. Official statement
