Last night’s Metal Hammer “Golden Gods” awards saw Slayer guitarist Kerry King take the top honour of ‘Golden God’ at an awards ceremony in London’s IndigO2.

The event, backed by Metal Hammer and play.com featured a host of live international metal talent including Testament, Apocalyptica, Children of Bodom, In Flames and US rockers Disturbed.

Veterans Iron Maiden scooped two wards – ‘Best UK Band’ and ‘Icon Award’ for their long-serving skeletal mascot Eddie. At the other end of the spectrum, Finnish classic/ metal newbie ensemble Apocolyptica – who performed on the night alongside Christina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) – scooped the Breakthrough award.

Airbourne grabbed the Best Debut award for their album ‘Runnin’ Wild’, with The Black Dhalia Murder scooping the Best Underground Band award.

The night belonged to Kerry King who’s work with Slayer and Megadeth saw him pick up the coveted Golden God award – presented to him by LA Ink’s Kat Von D.
