Michael Nyman announces Royal Festival Hall show for 2013

In addition to Michael Nyman's forthcoming solo piano show at Islington Town Hall on 10th December 2012 (there are still a few tickets left at £30 each, by the way), the enigmatic soundtracks and classical composer has announced another exclusive and very special concert on London's South Bank.

Due to take place next year on 27th March 2013 at the Royal Festival Hall is a show featuring the Michael Nyman Band performing excerpts from across his recording career, including those Greenaway movies and his earlier cyclical work for the Editions EG label.

We will have tickets to this concert from 10am on Thursday 18th October, priced from £25 upwards.

Michael Nyman shot to fame in the '80s by working with acclaimed art-house director Peter Greenaway. Never mind that the films had disturbing images such as rotting swans, choirboys being relieved of their belly-buttons or Michael Gambon tucking into his wife's dead (and roasted) beau ('The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover'), Nyman's eddying piano, piercing grandiose strings and stately pomp provided a juxtaposition of chaos, decay and death with a rousing classical bedfellow, all composed by a man who looks like he wouldn't tut at a malfunctioning biro.

After forging a successful career with one hand in film and the other in the arms of pop's young things (briefly with bonkers '70s art-punks Flying Lizards, Blur's Damon Albarn and most recently, David McAlmont), Nyman's influential past will continue into the future with these latest concerts.
