Universal reprices CDs in bid to compete with downloads
News
Universal Music group - the World's biggest record company - is to introduce a new pricing structure for CDs across Europe.
Universal, whose artists include UK artists Elton John, U2, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Cure as well as US stars Mariah Carey, The Killers, Fallout Boy, Kan Ye West and Stevie Wonder, will introduce basic, standard and deluxe versions of CDs.
The expected retail prices will be £7, £10, £14 - with the latter typically containing bonus CDs or DVDs. This comes in the wake of 26 million legal UK downloads in 2005.
