To mark the bi-centenary of the abolition of the slave trade in Europe and the US - a process started by Hull's William Wilberforce. William, alongside Thomas Clarkson had campaigned since 1789 for the abolition of slavery and the pair saw a bill passed in 1807 to such an effect.
Freedom Rocks - hosted by Freedom Events will feature headliners Keane and Groove Armada on 9th and 10th June. Many other acts will feature in the two day event which wil also feature a "Dance Freedom, Dance" tent and fairground - held in the Victorian East Park in Hull.
With 2007 being the centenary year, there are many other events taking place to commemorate the life of William Wilberforce. See www.wilberforce2007.com for more info.
