Billy Preston - famous both in his own right as a keyboardist, singer and songwriter and alongside such luminaries as the BeatlesRolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Sly and the Family Stone and Aretha Franklin - has died at the age of 59 in Arizona.

With the Beatles (he was sometimes referred to as 'The Fifth Beatle'), he played on the albums: 'Let it be', 'The White Album' and 'Abbey Road' as well as being credited with co-writing 'Get Back'.

As a soloist he had hits with 'Will It Go Round In Circles', 'With You I'm Born Again' and 'Nothing From Nothing' and the album 'Outta Space' for which he won a grammy in 1972. Not to mention the song 'You are so beautiful' which he penned for Joe Cocker.

He died as a result of kidney failure which left him in a coma since November 2005.
