The Scottish singer/ songwriter KT Tunstall was presented with the acclaimed 'Best Song' award at the 51st Ivor Novello awards ceremony last night for 'Suddenly I See', pipping Coldplay (Fix You) and Arctic Monkeys (I Bet you Look Good on the Dancefloor) to the post. The Ivor Novello awards are seen as more 'intellectual' than other awards - rewarding the skill of songwriting.

Other winners included James Blunt for most performed song and international hit for 'You're Beautiful', with the Kaiser Chiefs claiming best album for 'Employment', Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett claimed songwriters of the year, the excellent 'Wires' by Athlete was named as best contemporary song.

New Order nabbed the most outstanding song collection for 'Singles', whilst Ray Davies picked up the 'outstanding contribution to British music' award and the Bee Gees claimed an Ivor Novello fellowship.
