Glaswegian alternative rockers Mogwai have recently contributed to the soundtrack for the film Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait which received much acclaim at this year’s Cannes film festival as well as from the press.

The film focuses on the amazing talent of footballer Zinedine Zidane, and was filmed in 2005 at the Santiago Bernabeu (home to Real Madrid), with 17 cameras all trained on Zidane throughout the match to show you his mastery.

The film was conceived and executed by Scottish Turner-prize-awarded director Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno.

The majority of the songs on the soundtrack were written and recorded by Mogwai, and follows the release of their acclaimed Mr Beast album released earlier this year – from which two tracks were used on the Michael Mann blockbuster Miami Vice.

The album, which also features tracks by Paul Weller, Bob Dylan and Roddy Frame is out now.

The film will be released on DVD in January.
